SUMMARY:Accurately Measuring Energy Consumption of Large Cosmological Simu
 lations
DESCRIPTION:Minisymposium\n\nOsman Seckin Simsek (University of Basel), Je
an-Guillaume Piccinali (ETH Zurich / CSCS), and Florina M. Ciorba (Univers
ity of Basel)\n\nSPH-EXA is a highly scalable and extendable simulation fr
amework for astrophysical and cosmological simulations, codesigned by comp
utational scientists and computer scientists to achieve scientific advance
s in astrophysics, cosmology, and high-performance computing. This talk di
scusses extending the SPH-EXA framework by integrating power measurement t
ools to accurately measure the energy usage of each simulation function du
ring the entire simulation. The collected data enables the energy efficien
cy analysis of large simulations allowing corrective measures to be implem
ented. We show the power, energy and carbon footprint data collected on mu
ltiple large simulations for hydro only, hydro+gravity and hydro+gravity c
oupled with cooling test cases analyzing the energy profile of each test c
ase to find the trade-off points between performance and power consumption
